Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2011 Porongurps RRP $20
Perfumed, floral, spritely, a little phenolic on finish which will succumb like the folly of youth over time. Nothing really to complain given the price.

Everyman has been misfortunate to experience the corker of old-style riesling.
Diabetically sweet, poorly handled and aged in tight-grained Australian cardboard, these offerings were usually the domain of the penniless students or whiskery bards.
Sometimes it’s good to be lazy.
The insatiable daily grind of work, cook, eat, sleep, and somewhere along the lines exercise, hobby and relax; you have to cut corners.
Now I’m not espousing to cut corners with food all the time, there is sensible time for foodie romance, then there is timely insensible stupidity.
Galafrey Reserve Chardonnay 2009 13% RRP $22
This tempered offering of quice and fig is both bright and generous. The dry grown process hopes to achieve a healthy stress to the vine, concentrating the berry's juice. Great Southern fruit is never going to carry the raw, near-obese power that Margaret River chardys have. Thus this chardonnay, pared back -- streamlined -- like a kind of tasty arrow. It's expressive in the right places and shows considered winemaking. 88 points.
